The best fitness advice... and some myths

There is so much information available online these days, not to mention fake news, so what is good fitness advice, and health tips to get you on track.

  1. Start with a good nights sleep - rest is a crucial part of getting your system in gear. Here are some tips for a good night sleep.

  2. Shock your body - change up your routine every two months. This helps ensure you keep challenging yourself but also ensures you are training and strengthening all muscles. Try a different class. For example a HIIT or Tabata Bootcamp class (we are now running these online).

  3. Hydration is so important - every day, get into the habit.

  4. Consider training with a friend to stay motivated. We offer personal training rates for buddies. Find out more here.

  5. Plan your training schedule, including walks or other outdoor activities, classes and personal training. Knowing when and how to fit it in will help you stick to the routine. How many times have you skipped training because you didn’t have your gym gear with you at the right time?

  7. If your goal is to tone up, consider Pilates. This is one of the best classes you can do for core strength and muscular endurance. It also helps relieve stress and improves posture and well-being. What’s not to love. You can book online Pilates here.

  8. Know your goals. Pick something that you are going to stick to. Remember why you are planning to get fitter and healthier.

  9. Remember if you really want to make a change to your body weight or shape, you need to train at least 3 days a week, over a three month period. There is no quick fix, detox or magic pill that can achieve and sustain this, but you can start today to make a lasting change.

Before we go some myths you may not have known about.

  1. Muscle is heavier than fat. Sorry folks a lb is a lb.

  2. Healthier foods are more expensive… Yes some organic veg will cost more, but you can eat a healthy diet on a budget. For example, Eggs make a wonderful meal.

  3. Starving yourself is not the best way to achieve weight loss. However you can consider skipping occasional meals, trying out intermittent fasting, or replacing with a small snack.
